Joshua 13

Bite-SizedJewish Parenting in 15June 4, 2026

Insight

Joshua was a legendary leader, yet he reached a point where his physical capacity didn’t match his "to-do list." God told him, "You are old... and very much of the land still remains to be taken." This isn't a critique of Joshua’s failure; it’s a permission slip to accept that we can’t finish everything in one lifetime. Parenting is a marathon, not a sprint. Sometimes, "good enough" means passing the baton or simply acknowledging that the work of raising children is vast, and you don’t have to conquer every hill today.

Text Snapshot

"Joshua was now old, advanced in years. GOD said to him, 'You have grown old... and very much of the land still remains to be taken possession of.'" (Joshua 13:1)

Activity: The "One-Hill" Audit (10 min)

Sit with your child and look at your "parenting to-do list" or the current week’s chaos. Choose one thing that feels overwhelming but isn't critical for today. Together, decide to "leave that land for later." Put it on a Post-it note and stick it on the fridge as a "Future Project." Celebrate that you are choosing your battles to preserve your energy for what actually matters right now.

Script: The "I Can't Do It All" Moment

When your child asks for something you don't have the bandwidth for: "I would love to do [activity] with you, but my tank is running low today. I’m choosing to save my energy so I can be present for [storytime/dinner] later. Let's make that our 'conquer for tomorrow' project."

Habit: The "Done-Enough" Review

Before closing your eyes at night, identify one thing you didn't get to, and say out loud: "I am human, this land is vast, and I did enough today."

Takeaway

You are not meant to conquer the entire Promised Land of perfect parenting in one day. Focus on your portion, bless the rest, and trust the process.
