Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 13, 2026

1. Who We Are

This Privacy Policy explains how Derekh Learning ("Derekh Learning," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you:

  • Visit our website (including the marketing site at derekhlearning.com and related subdomains), and
  • Use the Derekh Learning web application, our mobile applications (including our iOS app available on the Apple App Store), and related services (together, the "Service").

By using the Service, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

2. Information We Collect

We collect information in three main ways: directly from you, automatically through your use of the Service, and from third parties you connect or that we use to operate the Service.

2.1 Information You Provide Directly

  • Account & Profile Information — Name, email address, password or authentication tokens, and any other details you provide when you create or update an account.
  • Learning Activity & Content — Texts you select, learning paths you choose or create, lessons you generate, notes, reflections, and other content you input into the Service (including prompts and questions you provide to the AI "Chevruta").
  • Community Contributions — Reflections, comments, feedback, or other content you choose to share publicly or with the Derekh Learning community.
  • Communication & Support — Messages you send to us via email, contact forms, or in-app support; and reports you submit about content quality or accuracy (for example, flagging an AI answer as incorrect), which may include the question, the answer, and your account email so we can review it.
  • Payment & Billing Information — When you purchase a Pro subscription, we receive details about your transaction (such as amount, plan type, and status). Payment card details are processed by our payment processor or by Apple and are not stored in full by us.

2.2 Information We Collect Automatically

When you access or use the Service, we may automatically collect:

  • Usage Information — Pages and screens viewed, features used, actions taken (such as "Start Learning" or "Upgrade to Pro"), referring/exit pages, and timestamps.
  • Device & Log Information — IP address, browser type, operating system, device identifiers, language settings, and log data (including access times and error reports).
  • Diagnostics & Crash Data — On mobile devices, we collect crash logs, hang reports, and basic performance diagnostics (for example, via Apple's MetricKit framework) to detect and fix problems and keep the app stable. These reports describe how the app behaved; they are not used to identify you.
  • Location Information (mobile, optional) — If you enable Location Services for the app, we use your approximate or precise location only to calculate accurate Zmanim (halachic times) for your area. Location is collected only with your permission and only while you are using the app; you can turn it off at any time in your device Settings, and the rest of the app continues to work.
  • Push Notification Token (mobile, optional) — If you enable notifications, your device provides a token that lets us deliver reminders (for example, daily learning and streak reminders). You can turn notifications off at any time in your device Settings.
  • Cookies & Similar Technologies (web) — We use cookies, local storage, and similar technologies to remember your preferences (for example, dark mode), keep you signed in, and understand how the Service is used.

2.3 Information from Third Parties

We may receive information about you from:

  • Authentication, Analytics, & Infrastructure Providers — Services we use to host our application and database, authenticate users, and measure usage (for example, cloud hosting, database platforms, and product-analytics tools).
  • Payment & App Store Providers — Our payment processor and, for purchases made through the Apple App Store, Apple, may send us information about your subscription status, successful or failed payments, and plan details.
  • AI, Audio, & Content Providers — To generate lessons, explanations, answers, audio narration, and other AI-powered outputs, we send your prompts and context (for example, selected texts, paths, and the questions you ask) to trusted third-party AI and text-to-speech providers. We may also retrieve Jewish texts and related content (and calendar/zmanim data) from third-party text libraries and APIs.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • To Provide and Operate the Service — Create and manage your account; generate AI-powered lessons, explanations, answers, audio narration, quizzes, and flashcards; and save your lessons and history.
  • To Personalize and Improve the Learning Experience — Suggest learning paths and content based on your usage, tailor lesson depth and format, and improve our AI prompts and features.
  • To Process Payments and Manage Subscriptions — Activate and manage Pro subscriptions; handle billing, invoicing, and subscription modifications (including through the Apple App Store).
  • To Communicate with You — Send service-related messages and notifications, respond to your inquiries, review content you report, and — with your consent — send newsletters or product updates.
  • To Maintain Security, Stability, and Prevent Misuse — Detect, investigate, and prevent fraudulent, abusive, or illegal activity; diagnose crashes and errors; and protect the integrity of the Service.
  • To Comply with Legal Obligations — Respond to lawful requests and comply with applicable laws.
  • For Analytics & Product Development — Analyze usage and performance to develop new features and compile aggregated, de-identified statistics.

Where privacy laws require a legal basis, we rely on:

  • Performance of a contract — To provide the Service you sign up for.
  • Legitimate interests — To secure, improve, and promote the Service.
  • Consent — For certain cookies, marketing emails, location, or notifications where we ask for explicit permission.
  • Compliance with legal obligations — Where processing is required by law.

5. How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information with:

  • Service Providers / Processors — Cloud hosting, databases, analytics, customer support tools, email providers, AI and text-to-speech platforms, and payment processors.
  • AI, Audio, & Content Providers — We send prompts and context (for example, extracts of text and your questions) to third-party AI and narration providers to generate responses and audio. They process data in accordance with their own policies.
  • Apple — For purchases and subscriptions made through the App Store, and for delivering push notifications.
  • Other Users / the Public — If you choose to share reflections or other content publicly, that content may be visible to other users.
  • Business Transfers — In connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred.
  • Legal & Safety — We may disclose details to comply with laws, enforce our Terms, or protect safe operations.

6. Data Retention

We retain personal information for as long as necessary to provide the Service to you, fulfill the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, comply with legal, accounting, or reporting obligations, and resolve disputes and enforce our agreements.

7. Cookies and Similar Technologies

On our website we use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember preferences (including dark mode), and understand usage patterns to improve the Service.

8. Your Rights & Choices

Depending on your location, you may have the right to request access, correction, deletion, or portability of your personal data, or to object to certain processing.

  • You can delete your account at any time within the app (Settings → Account) or by emailing us.
  • On mobile, you can manage location and notification permissions at any time in your device Settings; turning them off does not prevent you from using the rest of the Service.
  • You can exercise other rights within your account settings or by email at support@derekhlearning.com.

9. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13 years old, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without verifiable parental consent, we will take reasonable steps to delete it.

10. International Data Transfers

We may process and store information in countries other than the one where you are located, including the United States, which may have different data protection laws.

11. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal information. However, no transmission over the internet is completely secure, and you use the Service at your own risk.

12. Third-Party Websites & Services

The Service may link to third-party sites or services. We are not responsible for their privacy practices or content.

13. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the date at the top of this statement. Your continued use of the Service signifies your acceptance of the updated terms.
