How is a bar/bat mitzvah parsha determined?
It's simply the weekly Torah portion read on the Shabbat of the celebration. Pick the Shabbat, and the annual reading cycle fixes the parsha.
Why do diaspora and Israel sometimes differ?
After a Yom Tov day observed only in the diaspora falls on Shabbat, Israel moves one portion ahead for several weeks until a double portion realigns the two schedules. The calculator supports both.
The date I entered shows no parsha — why?
Some Shabbatot have a special holiday reading instead of the weekly portion (e.g. during Pesach or Sukkot). Try the following Shabbat, or check with your synagogue about the reading for that day.
