Hook

You are sitting in a board meeting, or perhaps deep in a late-night sprint, staring at a product roadmap that requires a "gray area" decision. Maybe it’s a feature that relies on scraping user data from a competitor, or a marketing claim that edges right up to the line of deception to hit your Q3 growth target. The pressure to survive—to achieve the "exit" or the "next round"—is suffocating. You tell yourself: This is business. Everyone else is doing it. If I don’t optimize for speed and market share now, I won’t be around to be ethical later.

This is the Founder’s Fallacy: the belief that ethics is a luxury good reserved for the post-IPO phase.
