Insight: The Beauty of "Good Enough" Accountability
In Bekhorot 5, the Talmud explores a tense exchange between Rabban Yoḥanan ben Zakkai and an officer regarding the accounting of Temple funds. The officer accuses Moses of "skimming" money because the math didn't seem to add up. Rabban Yoḥanan ben Zakkai defends the integrity of the leader by clarifying a nuance in measurement. The big idea? Things aren't always what they seem from the outside. As parents, we often judge our own performance by surface-level "math"—did the house stay clean? Did they eat their greens? Did we stay calm? But like the Temple accounting, there is a deeper, hidden "weight" to our efforts that often goes unseen. Trust your own integrity even when the results look messy.
