Yet, without that little loop of clay, your morning ritual would be a messy, painful disaster of burnt fingers and spilled liquid. The handle is the unsung hero of your kitchen cabinet. It is the bridge between you and the thing you actually want to enjoy.
Or think about the wrapper on a piece of candy, or the peel on an orange. We do not eat the wrapper or the peel. We throw them in the trash. But without them, the sweet treat inside would get dirty, bruised, or ruined before it ever reached us.
