Have you ever moved into an apartment with roommates and faced the dreaded "chore standoff"? You know the feeling. The sink fills with dishes, the recycling bin overflows, and everyone quietly thinks to themselves: Well, it’s not technically just my mess, so it’s not my job. When ownership gets split, responsibility often evaporates.
This human habit is not new. In fact, ancient people tried the exact same trick. Two thousand years ago, someone might have looked at a shared field of wheat or a jointly owned sheep and thought: The Torah says I have to give a gift from "your" grain. But this isn't just mine. It belongs to me and my business partner! Guess that means we don't have to give anything at all!
