Do you need a hug, a snack, or just some space?" This acknowledges the uncertainty of the moment while keeping the connection intact.

When you aren't sure how to handle a tough request: "I’m still figuring out the best way to handle this, so let’s pause. I love you, and I’m going to take a minute to think about the right answer. We’ll try this again in a few minutes."

Habit

The Micro-Win: Once this week, when you find yourself overwhelmed by a "messy" parenting moment (a spilled drink, a missed bedtime, a big cry), stop for 30 seconds, take a breath, and name the feeling out loud before you act. "This is hard, and it’s okay that I don’t have a perfect solution right now."
