Have you ever had one of those days where a single spilled coffee, a grumpy email from your boss, or a minor traffic jam completely ruined your entire mood? It is a incredibly common human experience. We often let a tiny splash of external messiness seep all the way into our inner lives, flooding our peace of mind until we feel completely ruined from the inside out.

It feels as though we lack a filter. When the outside world gets dirty, we feel dirty too. We find ourselves asking: How do I keep the chaos of my outer circumstances from contaminating my inner joy? How do we build an emotional firewall so that a bad day at work does not turn into a bad evening with our families?
