The law permits you to initiate a process before a deadline (Sabbath) that completes itself thereafter. In business, this is the power of automated systems and pre-planned workflows. If the infrastructure is sound, you don't need to be in the "engine room" while the market is closed or you are off-duty.

The Sages forbade stirring coals because it creates a temptation to "perfect" the process. In a startup, every time you "stir the coals" (tweak code, adjust ad spend, micromanage a delegate) after the work has begun, you risk breaking a system that was functioning perfectly well on its own.
