The founder’s dilemma is the obsession with "granularity." We track CAC to the penny, LTV to the user-second, and churn to the millisecond. We suffer from the illusion that if we can measure it, we can control it. We treat our business like an engineering problem where precision is the ultimate virtue. But Maimonides, in the Mishneh Torah, presents a radical counter-intuitive truth: perfection is not found in infinite precision, but in the intelligent application of discrete, manageable units.

The lunar month is naturally messy. It is 29.5 days and some change. If you tried to run a calendar on the "true" astronomical time, you would be forced to start months in the middle of the day—creating chaos for contracts, labor, and community. Rambam points out that the tradition teaches, "You count the days of a month; you do not count the hours Numbers 11:20."
