Privacy Policy: Derekh Games

Derekh Games is one of the Derekh Learning family of companion apps. It has no account and no sign-in. This page explains exactly what this specific app does, and does not do, with your information. What Derekh Games collects

Nothing. The App Store privacy label is Data Not Collected.

Derekh Games is four games in one app: Teiku (a daily machloket), Two Jews, Three Opinions (a daily poll), The Beit Din (judge Talmud cases) and Fantasy Talmud (draft sages, score every daf). Everything you do in them stays on your device, in your own iCloud key-value store, or in your own iCloud (CloudKit) private database. We have no console into any of it. There is no analytics SDK and no advertising.

The one thing that is sent: an anonymous poll vote

To count the daily poll in Two Jews, Three Opinions, the app sends one identifier: an opaque, random ID created on your device (a per-install UUID), together with the index of the choice you vote for. Nothing else.

  • This identifier lets a device vote once per question (revoting updates your vote instead of duplicating it).
  • It carries no personal information, is not the advertising identifier, is not linked to your identity, and is not used to track you across apps or websites.
  • The aggregate split it returns is the product; individual votes are never shown.

Where your data lives

  • Your Teiku side choices, streak and stats, your Two Jews voting streak, and your Beit Din lifetime stats stay on your device, with an optional backup to your own iCloud (Apple's key-value storage).
  • Fantasy Talmud leagues, rosters and draft picks are stored in your own iCloud using Apple's CloudKit, and shared with friends through Apple's CloudKit sharing (an invite-only link, no public feed, no strangers; any member can leave or be removed). Scoring is computed on your device from the public daily-daf text.
  • The daily disputes, questions and cases are bundled inside the app.

Services this app connects to

  • Derekh Learning content service: a read-only request that returns already-published, shared Torah content (a lesson, verse, or card). The request sends nothing about you. (optional bonus cards and lesson previews; each request sends an empty body or a public citation already on screen). The Beit Din can optionally refresh its case pool the same way; that refresh is off by default.
  • Derekh Learning content service (the one write in the app): Two Jews' anonymous vote described above, a random per-install ID and a choice index, which is how the split is counted.
  • Sefaria (sefaria.org): a public Torah-text library, for Hebrew/English texts and commentaries. Requests are generic (e.g. “today’s daf”); no personal data or identifiers are sent. (Fantasy Talmud's daf text and sage lookups).
  • Apple iCloud / CloudKit for invite-only league sharing and for progress backup, in your own iCloud.

Permissions

  • Local Network: "Derekh Games connects the phones at your table so every judge can rule on their own device. This happens directly between the phones in the room: nothing is sent over the internet, and there is no account." Shown only when a Beit Din table is hosted or joined across phones. Decline it and solo play and pass-the-phone still work.
  • Notifications: a runtime prompt only when you turn on a daily reminder, the weekly digest, or Fantasy Talmud's "sage went off" alerts. Reminders are scheduled on your device; league sync uses silent push, which needs no prompt.
  • No camera, microphone, location, contacts, or photos access.

No accounts, no analytics, no ads

This app has no login and no user account. It contains no third-party analytics or advertising SDKs, and it does not track you across other apps or websites. There is no advertising identifier (IDFA) use.

Children's privacy

This app is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will take reasonable steps to address it.

Data retention

Because this app keeps your information on your device, we do not hold it. Data stored on your device is removed when you delete the app (subject to any device or iCloud backups, which are under your control).

Your choices

You can manage any permissions this app uses (such as location or microphone) at any time in iOS Settings, and the app keeps working without them wherever possible. Deleting the app removes its on-device data.

Changes to this policy

We may update this page from time to time. When we do, we will change the "last updated" date at the top.
