Insight: The Grace of "I Just Meant That"
Parenting is full of "intoxicated" moments—not from wine, but from exhaustion, sensory overload, and the sheer chaos of a holiday like Sukkot. In Nazir 11, the Sages show profound empathy for a woman who vows to become a nazirite (a lifelong ascetic) just to get people to stop offering her more wine. They look past her literal words and recognize her intent: she wasn't signing up for a life of holiness; she was just setting a boundary against one more cup. As parents, we often say things we don’t mean when we’re pushed to our limit. The Sages teach us that intent matters more than the specific, frantic words we use.
