Hook

Founders love to talk about "leverage." We obsess over how one hire can unlock a team, or how one API integration can collapse a workflow. We treat our company like a machine, optimizing for flow and efficiency. But here is the brutal founder dilemma: what happens when your "leverage" becomes a carrier of contamination?

In the startup ecosystem, we often view people and processes (vessels) as interchangeable units of output. If a process breaks, we fix it. If a person underperforms, we swap them out. But when toxicity enters a culture, it doesn’t move through the organization in a straight line. It chains. It cascades. One compromised hire or one "efficient" shortcut that violates your core ethics creates a contagion that lingers far longer than the incident itself.
